Devenish to sponsor 2015 European Angus Steak Tasting Competition
18th December 2014
Devenish are delighted to announce their continued sponsorship of the popular European Angus Steak Tasting Competition.
Commenting on the sponsorship for the 2015 competition, Simon Caughey, Marketing Manager of Devenish said: “We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with European Angus and to be supporting such a fabulous competition. It showcases all that is great about locally produced beef produce and gives recognition to everyone involved in those processes.”
Now entering its fifth year, the competition, which is open to all breeds of cattle and beef producers, will also feature for the first time a new “added value” beef produce category.
“With the competition growing year-on-year, and with the introduction of a new class in the 2015 competition to accompany the steak, beefburger and beef sausage categories, it was absolutely vital that we continued to have the support of Devenish in staging the competition,” said European Angus Cattle Society Secretary, Harry McGaffin.
Due to be held at CAFRE Loughry Campus in early 2015 the competition will once again seek to find the best steaks, beefburgers, beef sausages and gourmet beef sausages in the Province, along with the best in added value beef produce.
“This new category, which has come about through demand, is very much an open category which will feature everything from pies to special recipe dishes that utilise locally produced beef as a major ingredient,” continued Harry. “It adds another dimension to the competition and I believe this new category, like all the others, will be very well supported.”
The format of the competition will remain the same with the staging of blind tastings in all categories. A guest judge will then select the overall supreme champion steak from the finalists. A supreme champion beef burger, beef sausage and gourmet beef sausage along with an added value beef produce supreme champion will also be revealed along with various category winners.
The competition, which culminates in a Gala Awards evening, is held in categories – those with under 15 employees and those with more than 15 employees. The tastings will be held in February 2015 and this will be followed up with the Gala Awards evening which will be staged in March.
Dates will be confirmed early in the new year, so look out for further information in agricultural press and our website.
