Formulation of diets should be easy. Any formulation package contains a matrix of information on the nutrient concentration and costs of a range of available feed ingredients. This information is used to calculate the amount of each ingredient that is required to satisfy the nutrient level constraints at the lowest cost.

As long as there are pig farms there will always be small/vulnerable piglets. We can research into the facts of how and why these occur, but in actual fact it is quite clear that as performance and production of our sows increase, so will the number of smaller piglets born.

Over 250 pig producers, owners and industry figures turned out for the Devenish Nutrition ‘Securing The Future’ Road show which took place in November and December 2011. The seminars took place in 5 venues throughout GB and Ireland, with shows in East Anglia, the Midlands, Cookstown, Clonmel and Mullingar.

"Cheap" Creep Feed A Dear Buy!

FEEDING a ‘cheap’ creep ration is an excellent farming example of folk being penny wise and pound foolish. A better quality creep feed can cost an extra £1.49 per pig, but produces a pig weighing an extra 2kg at stage one that goes on to finish faster at less overall cost. This was the key conclusion draw by research nutritionist Dr Marian Scott from on farm trials conducted by Devenish Nutrition.
